This painting is the second in as series of paintings I am working on about the Day of the Dead holiday in Mexico. It is one of my favorite times. The streets are filled with commemorative altars, which are decorated lavishly with flowers and other objects related to the deceased. Many people dress for the occasion wearing make up and incredible costumes with skeletal themes. The graveyards are a site to behold and are filled with people bringing flowers, food, and other personal items related to their deceased family members. this painting is framed in silver with a black inset and is ready to be shipped.
Susan Santiago completed her undergraduate work at New York University where she received a bachelor's degree in Art History. She later moved to Woodstock, New York. While teaching art there, she enrolled in the Art Students' League, (now the Woodstock School of Art) and studied life drawing with Franklin Alexander. After enduring many cold winters there in upstate New York, she moved to Southern California and settled in Venice, then a bohemian enclave at the beach. She enrolled at California State University, Los Angeles, and received a Masters Degree in Fine Art.
