About Susan Santiago

Susan Santiago Susan Santiago completed her undergraduate work at New York University where she received a bachelor's degree in Art History. She later moved to Woodstock, New York. While teaching art there, she enrolled in the Art Students' League, (now the Woodstock School of Art) and studied life drawing with Franklin Alexander. After enduring many cold winters there in upstate New York, she moved to Southern California and settled in Venice, then a bohemian enclave at the beach. She enrolled at California State University, Los Angeles, and received a Masters Degree in Fine Art.

She eventually decided to forgo city life and moved to Topanga Canyon in the Santa Monica Mountains. Susan taught art in the public schools and eventually became the art department chairperson at Palisades Charter High School. During her summer vacations, she and her husband traveled throughout Mexico and fell in love with San Miguel de Allende, where they eventually built a home. In August, 2011, Susan retired and moved to San Miguel de Allende, realizing her dream of devoting herself full time to her artwork.

Susan is a member of Women Painters West and has exhibited in galleries on both the East and West coasts. She was represented by Orlando Gallery in Los Angeles for over 28 years.


Susan Santiago realizo sus estudios en la Universidad de Nueva York donde obtuvo una licenciatura en Historia del Arte. Depues de esto se mudo a Woodstock, Nueva York. Mientras trabajaba como maestra de arte en ese lugar, se enrolo en la Liga de Estudiantes de Arte (actualmente la Escuela de Arte de Woodstock) donde estudio dibujo de figura con Franklin Alexander. Luego de muchos inviernos crudos en el norte del estado de Nuevo York, decidio vivir en California y establecerse en Venice, entonces un enclave bohemio en la playa. Se inscribio en la University de California donde obtuvo uns maestria en Artes Visuales.

Mas tarde renunciando a su vida citadina se mudo a Canyon Topanga en las montanas de Santa Monica. Alli ella enseno' arte en las secuelas publicas y se convirtio en la jefe del departamento de arte en la secundaria Palisades Charter. En sus vacasiones de verano, Susan y su esposo viajaron por muchas partes de Mexico, al conocer San Miguel de Allende decidieron construir una casa. En Augusto de 2011, Susan se retiro a esta cuidad realizando su sueno de dedicarse a su arte de tiempo completo.

Esta artista en miembro del grupo de "Pintoras del Oeste" y ha expuesto su trabajo en Galerias en las Costas del East y el Oeste. Fue representada port la Galeria de Orlando en Los Angeles por mas de 28 anos.
